UNDERSTANDING YOUR SKIN TYPE

• Do you know that understanding your skin type is very essential just so you know the right products to use and how to use them to achieve what you are looking for, the perfect glowing skin? always remember that each individual’s skin is unique in many ways. which means that there is no “one size fits all”. Here are the five main skin types: normal, oily, dry, sensitive, and combination skin.

1. Normal skin: This skin type is well-balanced and has few visible imperfections. It’s not prone to breakout. However, as perfect as it sounds you still need to do proper skin care to maintain that perfection. It has a smooth texture, and small pores, and is neither too oily nor too dry. But either way, you must make use of a moisturizer.

2. Sensitive skin: Sensitive skin requires a lot of pampering because it’s easily irritated. if you have sensitive skin it may appear like it’s red, itching, or dry. This skin type can be triggered by certain ingredients like fragrances, dyes, etc. I also fall into this category I don’t allow body or hair oil to touch mine cause the next minute I start having rashes all over even when I touch my face so I try as much as possible to avoid those.

3. Dry skin: You would always need a moisturizer with SPF 30 and above for this kind of skin. It produces less natural oils than other types of skin which may cause it to be rough and appear dull. It may also feel tight or rough. Fine lines and wrinkles may be more apparent in dry skin.

4. Oily skin: Oily skin produces excess sebum, leading to a shiny or greasy appearance throughout the T zone (forehead, chin, and nose). Pores of oily skin may be enlarged and prone to clogging, causing blackheads and acne breakouts. Oily skin may also be more prone to acne scarring.

5. Combination skin: Combination skin is a mix of oily and dry areas. Typically, the forehead, nose, and chin are oilier, while the cheeks and other parts of the face are drier. Effective cleansing and hydrating are keys to care for all skin types both oily and dry.

Your skin type is based on the amount of oil your skin produces. To determine your skin type, observe how your skin feels and behaves throughout the day. Consider these factors:
• Oil production: Check if your skin feels oily and shiny, especially in places like your nose and forehead.
• Dryness: Assess whether your skin feels tight rough, or experience flakiness.
• Sensitivity: Notice if your skin reacts to certain products or environmental factors by becoming red, itchy, or easily irritated.
• Pore size: Observe the size of your pores, particularly in the T-zone. Larger pores tend to be associated with oily skin.

Once you have determined your skin type, you can tailor your skincare routine and choose products that cater to your specific needs. It’s always advisable to consult with a dermatologist or skincare professional for personalized advice. If you have any questions let me know in the comment section 😉.
