Building a proper skincare routine for every individual involves a few key steps that should be followed daily. From the last post, you can see that I talked about understanding your skin type which is the first step. knowing what type of skin you have to know the right products to use is very important. We have normal, dry, oily, combination, and sensitive skin. So here are the few steps to follow on how to build an effective skincare routine:
1. Cleanse: Great skin starts with a gentle yet thorough cleanse. Our skin comes into contact with dirt, sweat, and air pollutants throughout the day. Even if you work from home, know that there is sometimes more dust indoors than outdoors so you need to cleanse your skin twice a day, morning and night. Wearing makeup adds to your daily grime and can clog pores if not properly removed. So it’s essential to remove all dirt, oil, and impurities before you start the next step.
2. Exfoliate: This removes the dead skin cells from your face and body and promotes cell turnover. It is recommended to exfoliate 2-3 times a week. Don’t make it an everyday routine because over-exfoliation can cause redness, dryness, uneven skin tone, and increased risk of sun damage.
3. Prep and tone: Toners are essential as they immediately help replace the moisture that is washed away from cleansing. It is used to balance your skin’s PH level which helps to absorb other skin products. Make the most out of every skincare step and opt for a treatment toner, there are so many good affordable products out there that suit different skin types.
4. Skin treatments: Products such as serums and spot treatments are used to treat specific skin concerns like acne, hyperpigmentation, dryness, and wrinkles. Make sure you look for a toner that fits your skin type.
5. Moisturize: You must drink lots of water to stay healthy, likewise, having an adequate amount of moisture in the skin keeps it running smoothly. A good moisturizer helps to nourish and protect the skin, preventing dryness and maintaining its elasticity.
6. Protect your skin with sunscreen: Sunscreen is the ultimate skin protector and the most crucial part of any skincare routine as it protects you from UV rays, and slows down the skin ageing process. Apply a broad-spectrum sunscreen with SPF 30 or higher. This should be applied at the last step of your morning routine.
7. Facial Treatment: If your skin is looking dull and feeling dry, a quick way to get radiance back is to treat yourself to a facial. Incorporate an eye cream into your routine. Facials help your skincare product work effectively.
Please whatever you do try to maintain good personal hygiene. Avoid touching your face all the time because of dirt, Try changing your bedsheets especially your pillowcases every week or 5 days. Eat a healthy diet, get enough sleep, and avoid excessive sun exposure to maintain overall skin health.
